Polymicro Optical Fibers from Phillips Medisize, a Molex company, are available in a variety of standard and specialty options; tight-tolerance, standard multimode step-index fibers are one example. Custom fibers, sizes, jackets and coatings are available, including dual-cladding with numerical apertures ranging from 0.11 to 0.66. Polymicro broad-spectrum fibers are designed for use in ultraviolet, visible, near- and mid-infrared ranges.
Unique fiber shapes and sizes are easily accommodated at our in-house glass facility. Phillips Medisize will collaborate with preform manufacturers to provide polyimide-coated, single-mode or graded-index fibers. Customers may also provide their own preforms and Phillips Medisize will draw and buffer the fiber using in-house or customer-supplied coatings. Fiber coatings may be UV-cured, thermally cured or extruded.
Typically, specialty fiber refers to non-telecommunication optical fiber. It is usually designed for the transfer of power rather than data. For Phillips Medisize specifically, we manufacture step-index multimode fused silica optical fiber. We also manufacture some atypical telecommunication fiber (such as high-temperature or metal-coated fibers).
The short answer is to simply give us a call! Per datasheets, fibers are specified for operation at a range of wavelengths; however, just because a fiber can operate in that wavelength range doesn’t necessarily mean it is the best choice for your application. We need to take many details into consideration, such as launch conditions, environmental factors and assembly specifications. We are here to help you make the correct decision.
All our fibers are manufactured in a state-of-the-art draw facility located in Phoenix, Arizona. As glass can be sensitive to atmospheric water, the low humidity of the desert area serves as an ideal location for fiber production.
Yes! In addition to our off-the-shelf options, our customization options include dimensions of the core/clad/buffer/jacket, numeric aperture, wavelength optimization and different cladding/buffer/jacket types. We can even customize the shape of the core for applications that require homogenization or a non-circular input profile.
