Features and Benefits

Developing connectors that can be assembled by robots

Despite advances in vehicle architecture, the installation of cables and connectors will remain a manual process unless connections can be adapted for automation. Molex is taking its decades of experience in automotive connectors and applying it to the problem of robot handling. The result will be a range of connectors designed from the outset for automated assembly.

Connectivity for zonal architecture

MX-DaSH Data Signal Hybrid Connectors are designed for compact connectivity in an ECU domain controller/computer. Instead of taking up precious design real estate with multiple connectors, engineers can meet multiple connectivity needs within one compact connector.

Wire-to-wire and wire-to-device hybrid signal connectivity available

Multiple options provide compact, hybrid connectivity for a range of automotive applications needing high-speed signal transmission for both in-cable and zonal architecture applications. For example, the wire-to-device solution combines 14 signal connectors in one providing compact connectivity to ECU controllers/computers.

Adopting new techniques

The connectivity between a device and a zonal gateway will require a new generation of hybrid or mixed connectors that can carry both power and high-speed signals, even in the tough conditions found on the road. With greater functionality packed into every single connector, harness installation will also be considerably easier, as fewer connection points will need to be made.

31 + 1 Female and Male Housings

Hybrid 31 + 1 connector integrates multiple interfaces:
• 19 1.20mm terminals, 0.75mm² wire
• 8 1.20mm terminals, 1.50mm² wire
• 4 2.80mm terminals, 4.00mm² wires
• 1 data module connector

Independent secondary lock (ISL) and pin protection plates (PPP) available:
Ensure secure mating and reliable connection

Six unique keyways:
Provides options for correct mating assurance

Complete assemblies for female and male housings:
Easy implementation into designs

22 + 1 Unsealed Blade Housing and Receptacle

Hybrid 22 + 1 connector integrates multiple interfaces:
• 22 1.20mm terminals with 0.35mm² through 0.75mm² wires
• 1 High-Speed FAKRA Mini (HFM) module with a diameter of 2.8mm through 3.3mm

Multiple types of high-speed data connection incorporated into one connector:
Using one connector instead of two (or three) eliminates the need for more than one connector and clip, and therefore, also eliminates the need for multiple V0 processes, saving both time and design costs

Includes blade protection plate:
Provides superior connection reliability

Incorporates 1.20mm terminal rather than 0.64mm terminal:
Delivers improved terminal robustness with no package size penalty

T1/V1/S1 validation:
Meets the benchmarks required for unsealed automotive connectors. Suitable for all in-cabin automotive applications

15 + 1 Sealed Blade Housing and Receptacle

Hybrid 15 + 1 connector integrates multiple interfaces:
• 11 1.20mm terminals with 0.35mm² through 0.75mm² wires
• 4 1.20mm terminals at corners with 1.00mm² max.
• 1 High-Speed FAKRA Mini (HFM) module

Mat seal technology:
Eliminates the need for individual cable seals, which provides reduced package size and reduced cost

T3/V1/S3 validation:
Meets the benchmarks required for automotive sealed connectors. Withstands high-pressure spray and provides ruggedness for reliable signal transmission

Overview

As technology demands increase, automotive engineers face challenges accommodating the required hardware, given space and weight limitations of a vehicle. Previous design models called for an individual ECU for each vehicle function, but as sensors and other hardware are located farther from the central computer, the additional wiring and cabling needed aggravate space constraints and add too much weight. Zonal architecture is an E/E model that addresses space and weight limitations by consolidating ECUs, locating them in zones around the vehicle, which, in turn, reduces necessary wiring and cabling.

As automotive designs evolve to include zonal architecture, engineers will need connectivity solutions that can manage multiple interfaces and functions while taking up minimal space in limited real estate. Molex has developed a solution that meets zonal architecture requirements. MX-DaSH (14 connectors turned into one) is designed for compact connectivity to an ECU domain controller/computer.
